Fall Photography Workshop

Float down the Atnarko River, where grizzly bears forage, feed, and care for their young in their natural habitat. Beginning late August, thousands of salmon arrive to spawn, drawing bears to the riverbanks to feed before winter. With food in abundance, the bears are more visible, more relaxed, and surprisingly tolerant of each other (and of quiet human onlookers drafting past). Look up every now and then to watch for eagles overhead and take in the sweeping views of the Coast Mountains.
Whether aboard a McKenzie drift boat or an inflatable raft, your wildlife guide is with you the whole way — sharing insights into grizzly behaviour, the river’s ecology, and local history, all while keeping you safe.

In autumn, Tweedsmuir Park Lodge is all about bears. One of the season’s standout experiences is stepping into their world with a guide by your side to observe wild grizzlies in their natural habitat.
Trails wind through the mossy, old-growth trees of the Great Bear Rainforest—past towering cedars, along riverbanks, and across soft forest floors rich with life. Guides will point out signs of bear activity like claw marks, day beds, scat, and tufts of fur on rub trees, while sharing insights into grizzly behaviour and how to safely coexist with these incredible animals.
Along the way, you may encounter other wildlife like black bears, mule deer, moose, beavers, mountain goats, bald eagles, and a variety of smaller mammals and birds that thrive in this unique ecosystem.

This 14-kilometre (8.6-mile) guided alpine trek leads you through a strikingly diverse landscape, with panoramic views of the eight-million-year-old Rainbow Range — a rare peralkaline shield volcano painted in vibrant colours.
Beginning at 1,400 metres, the trail climbs gently above the treeline, winding through a regenerating forest shaped by wildfire, into wildflower-strewn subalpine meadows, past mirror-like lakes, and up to sweeping vistas of multicoloured volcanic peaks.
