Guided Hikes in the Rainbow Range

Guided Hikes in the Rainbow Range
Not all hikes reward you only at the summit — this one inspires from the first step. This 14-kilometre (8.6-mile) guided alpine trek leads you through a strikingly diverse landscape, with panoramic views of the eight-million-year-old Rainbow Range — a rare peralkaline shield volcano painted in vibrant colours.
Beginning at 1,400 metres, the trail climbs gently above the treeline, winding through a regenerating forest shaped by wildfire, into wildflower-strewn subalpine meadows, past mirror-like lakes, and up to sweeping vistas of multicoloured volcanic peaks.
Along the way, your guide will share insights into the rhythms of this high alpine ecosystem — all while keeping an eye out for rare migratory birds, moose tracks, and perfect picnic spots.

Who Should Book This Activity?
This full-day adventure is ideal for guests seeking a more strenuous alternative to the Guided Hikes in the Bella Coola Valley. Those who experience both will gain a unique perspective on the striking contrast between the lush rainforest of the Bella Coola Valley and the expansive grasslands and striking formations of the Chilcotin Plateau.

Safety & Mobility
This hike requires a moderate to high level of fitness and is not recommended for guests with mobility limitations. Trails in the Rainbow Range are rated as difficult, with sustained climbs, loose footing, and sections of exposed roots and rocks. You’ll be hiking through high-elevation alpine terrain, where weather conditions can shift rapidly—from warm sun to cool winds or sudden rain. Proper footwear, layered clothing, and a sense of adventure are essential for making the most of this stunning, but physically demanding, day in the mountains.
Expect to spend 4 to 5 hours hiking and standing on uneven terrain. Some backcountry hiking experience is recommended, along with the stamina for a challenging, full-day trek. If you’re unsure about your fitness level or would prefer a slower pace, we recommend booking a private tour for added flexibility.
