First Nations Petroglyph Experience

First Nations Petroglyph Experience
Venture into the lush, ancestral forests of the Nuxalk People and discover one of the most sacred sites in the Great Bear Rainforest with Copper Sun. Set within a protected conservancy, this trail leads to more than 40 petroglyphs—ancient stone carvings of animals, spirit beings, and creation stories.
Thousands of years old, these carvings are part of a living oral tradition shared by your Nuxalk guide. As you walk beneath towering cedar and hemlock, you’ll not only witness the petroglyphs but also hear the teachings, stories, and spiritual meaning woven into the land itself.

About Copper Sun
Founded in 2015, Copper Sun was created to offer an authentic Nuxalk experience rooted in place, culture, and community. Based in Nuxalkulmc on the Central Coast, in the heart of Q’umk’uts (Bella Coola), the organization is led by Nuhawhawta, also known as Sheldon Tallio.
A gifted guide and storyteller, Nuhawhawta has been sharing the sacred petroglyphs and teachings of the Nuxalk People for many years. Visitors often leave speechless — and for good reason. His presence is deeply spiritual, his knowledge vast, and his ability to connect with people truly rare. No two experiences are ever the same.
