4 Mile Ridge Heli Hiking Adventure

This is hiking, elevated. Set off on an unforgettable aerial ascent to 4-Mile Ridge, where a short helicopter ride takes you to an entirely different world, high above the valley floor. This heli-access hike unlocks panoramic views of glacier-capped peaks, deep fjords, and the dramatic terrain of the Coast Mountains, and a remote alpine landscape only accessible by air.

From the drop-off point, you’ll hike westward along a low-grade granite ridgeline, guided through open alpine terrain with uninterrupted views in every direction. The pace is tailored to your group. Whether you complete the full traverse or opt for a shorter route, the experience delivers the kind of scenery and solitude that few hikers ever encounter.

This alpine adventure is perfect for guests looking to explore the dramatic mountain terrain and glacier-carved landscapes above Bella Coola. After a short but spectacular helicopter flight, you’ll land atop 4 Mile Ridge—perched high above the townsite—with sweeping views of the Bella Coola Valley, surrounding peaks, and fjords stretching toward the Pacific.

Led by an experienced guide, you’ll spend 4 to 5 hours exploring subalpine ridgelines, rocky outcrops, and wildflower-filled meadows shaped by millennia of glacial activity. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the geology, alpine ecology, and forces that shaped this rugged environment.

The tour includes a scenic stop for a picnic lunch, giving you time to rest, refuel, and soak in the incredible surroundings.

Expect uneven terrain and moderate elevation changes. Participants must be comfortable hiking on natural surfaces and following guide instructions at all times to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. If you’re unsure about your fitness level or prefer a slower pace, a private tour offers added flexibility.

This heli-accessed alpine hike is best suited for guests with a moderate to high level of physical fitness who are eager to experience the mountains up close.

Expect to spend 4 to 5 hours on your feet, covering roughly five kilometres (three miles) of uneven, root- and rock-covered terrain with moderate elevation gain. The route includes sections of light rock scrambling and climbing, so guests should be comfortable navigating rugged alpine ground.

Before departure, your pilot and guide will provide detailed safety briefings on the helicopter and the trail ahead to ensure you’re well prepared. All guides are trained in Wilderness Advanced First Aid and carry radios and emergency communication devices throughout the hike.

The experience includes approximately 18 minutes of round-trip helicopter flight time, which may vary slightly depending on weather and flying conditions. A scenic picnic lunch is included along the route.

If you’re unsure about your fitness level or would prefer a slower pace, we recommend booking a private tour for added flexibility and one-on-one guidance.
