Get up close with the Bella Coola Grizzly Bears, and the valley wildlife from a Mckenzie river boat. Accompanied by an experienced guide, this is something you should not miss. We recommend these eco-tours as a 'must do' for all of our guests.

As the Mckenzie drift boats do not use a motor the silence offers the opportunity for viewing wildlife up close and personal. This is a relaxed, and peaceful way of travel. These picturesque boat  trips follow the Atnarko and Bella Coola Rivers. You will behold the Grizzly Bears on their level; consequently, feeling a part of their sensitive and unsullied ecosystem.

Don’t forget your camera and binoculars.

Our guides are expert oars men with many years of experience on these rivers. They know the wildlife and the fauna well. They also have extensive knowledge of the local history and geography. Our Mckenzie drift boats are comfortable and all waters are safe, class one (1) waters. The river boat is the perfect platform to encounter wildlife, and these tours are ideal for all ages and abilities.

The seasons on the Bella Coola and Atnarko Rivers are from early June to the middle of October. June and July are the perfect time to see the lush light green valley, and the snowcaps peaks above. You will experience migrating and resident birds as well as the chance to see a few of the early bears of the season. August to October is the optimum time for the Bella Coola Grizzly Bear viewing season. The Salmon travel up the rivers to spawn, and ultimately die. This attracts the Grizzly Bears to these rivers from a large region.

What To Bring::

  • Good worn in hiking shoes. Low or medium cut shoes are suitable for most hikes
  • Small backpack for lunch, snacks, fluids and personal gear
  • Comfortable pants
  • Shirt, fleece or sweater
  • Fleece or knitted hat, baseball cap or sun hat
  • Thin gloves
  • Change of socks
  • Wind jacket and pants or thin rain gear
  • 1 litre water bottle
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Camera with a large memory card for all those great shots
  • Binoculars
  • Personal medication if applicable

Tours are available for a half day or a full day, and are designed to meet your abilities and goals.

Private full day: $330 (one to two persons per tour)

Private half day:: $250 (one to two persons per tour)

Semi private full day: $380 (three to four persons per tour)

Semi private half day: $300 (three to four persons per tour)
